Truce signs director Thomas Charles Hyland

Following a triumphant collaboration on his debut feature documentary, This Is Going To Be Big, director Thomas Charles Hyland has joined the roster at Truce Films for commercial representation.

A co-production between Truce and Fremantle Media, with Bus Stop Films coming on board as an inclusive filmmaking partner, Hyland’s film is a humorous and honest documentary in which a cast of neurodivergent teens confront their fears, aspirations and desires as they prepare for their first high school musical. The project was also supported by Screen Australia, VicScreen, ABC, Abstar Productions, Netflix and the Melbourne International Film Festival Premiere Fund where the film will have its world premiere to a sellout audience this evening.

Says Elise Trenorden, executive producer, Truce: “This Is Going To Be Big is an incredible film that showcases Thomas’ ability to craft a nuanced and uplifting narrative, around what is at times complex subject matter. Our journey together over the last 18 months has shown us what a remarkable filmmaker he is.”

Hyland’s commercial portfolio includes work for Respect Victoria, TAC, Arts Centre Melbourne, Vision Australia, and Women’s Legal Service Victoria, and has often explored emotional themes.

Says Hyland: “Personally, I want to make work that is lasting and impactful. It could be dramatic, funny, scripted, observed, commercial or long-form. The work I’m drawn to is the kind that lodges in your brain, makes you feel – or discover – something, and then tempts you to tell all your friends before you watch it again. I feel very ambitious and there is so much I want to make. None of it would be possible without a brilliant partner like Truce.”
